In ‘The Terminal’, Tom Hanks character traveled to USA to fulfilled his father’s dream. After being stuck in the airport for so long, finally he achieved what he set out to do. That was to get the autograph of Benny Golson – the living and breathing Jazz legend.
Today, at the age of 80, Benny Golson is still energetic as ever. He just released his latest album, he tours regularly, and this will be the first time for his official show in Thailand. ‘Benny Golson Live in Bangkok’ – a genuine Jazz concert that jazzlovers can’t afford to miss!!!
Only a handful of Jazz musicians can claim that they’re the real pioneer of Jazz. And even fewer musicians have a long and amazing career that influenced Jazz world. Benny Golson is one of the Jazz legend with his standard compositions, such as Killer Joe, I Remember Clifford, Along Came Betty, Stablemates, Whisper Not, Blues March, Five Spot After Dark, Are You Real?

Benny Golson is the only living Jazz artist who composed Standard Jazz tracks as much as 8 tracks. Those tracks were covered regularly. Golson himself has recorded more than 30 albums with various labels. He composed more than 300 songs so far.
His musicianship has given him the chance to travel around the world. In 1987, USA has appointed him as cultural ambassador to perform in South East Asia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar and Singapore. Afterwards, Philip Morris International brought him to Bangkok, Thailand to compose with Bangkok Symphony Orchestra as well.
With his skills as musician and showman, his performance always entertains his audiences. Apart from performing around the world, he also writes books and textbooks and doing lectures for many universities.

He has lectured to doctoral candidates at New York University and to the faculty at National University at San Diego.

Golson's musical odyssey has taken him around the world. In 1987 he was sent by the US State Department on a cultural tour of Southeast Asia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Burma, Singapore. Later, Philip Morris International sent him on an assignment to Bangkok, Thailand to write music for the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra.
A live performer who consistently knocks audiences off their feet, Benny Golson has given hundreds of performances in the USA, Europe, South America, the Far East and Japan for decades.
Benny is also working on a major college textbook and his autobiography

• Biography
Denny Euprasert started his musical training at Bangkok Christian College, Yamaha Music School, and Interlake High School, Bellevue, Washington, USA. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Jazz Piano Performance from Cornish College of the Arts, Seattle, Washington (1992), a Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from University of North Texas (1998), and a Doctor of Arts degree in Music Theory and Composition with a secondary emphasis in Jazz Pedagogy from University of Northern Colorado (2004), USA. Denny studied jazz piano Dan Haerle, Dana Landry, Dave Peck, and Randy Halberstadt, studied conducting with Dr. Kenneth Singleton and Neil Slater, and studied composition with Manrat Srikaranonda, Dr. Evan Copley, Dr. Gene Aitken, Paris Rutherford, Ralph Towner, and James Knapp. He has performed with David Liebman, Nicholas Payton, Maria Schneider, Bob Brookmeyer, Deborah Brown, Kenny Wheeler, Mike Stern, Chris Minh Doky, Cornish Jazz Orchestra, Bremerton Symphony Orchestra, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, UNC Jazz Lab Band I, and Bangkok Symphony Orchestra. Always much in demand as a sensitive accompanist for singers, he was also the pianist and/or music director for several musical theatre productions including Grease, the Boyfriend, the Fantasticks, Cabaret, and 42nd Street.
In August 2007, he was appointed the music director and conductor for the 24th Universiade Bangkok 2007. He received numerous awards and scholarships including Louis Armstrong Jazz Award (1988), IAJE Outstanding Piano Soloist Award from San Diego City College Jazz Festival (1988) and Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival (1990), Jacobsen Scholarships (1988-1990), Jazz Studies Scholarship from University of North Texas (1996-98), IAJE Outstanding Musicianship Award from Wichita Jazz Festival (1997) and Greeley Jazz Festival (2001), Del Dykins Composition Award (2003), and the Downbeat Student Awards (2003, 2004). He was the Director of Jazz Studies and the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Mahidol University College of Music (1994-1996, 1998-2000), and he has taught at the University of Northern Colorado School of Music (2001-2004).
Denny is currently the Dean of Rangsit University Conservatory of Music and is the conductor of Rangsit Philharmonic Orchestra. He has received honorably awards “Silaphatorn” in music which is presented to outstanding young Thai artists each year. |
