The fat lady won't be singing on June the 15th as Bangkok Opera presents some of the most famous operatic excerpts that DON'T have divas in them! Gems of the French, Italian, German, Russian and even the Thai operatic repertoire will be performed. Works include the dramatic "Force of Destiny" Overture, the rousing "Anvil Chorus" from Il Trovatore, the Barcarolle from "Tales of Hoffmanmn", "Meditation" from Tha?s, Chorus of Nobles from Tannh?user, "Humming Chorus" from Madama Butterfly, "Intermezzo" from Cavalleria Rusticana and more ... climaxing with the frenetic "Polovtsian Dances" from Prince Igor (the "Stranger in Paradise" theme) sung in the original Russian.
Conducted by Somtow Sucharitkul, founder of the Orpheus Choir of Bangkok. |
The Siam Philharmonic's CD "Per l'Amore" was the second prize winner in the opera category of the international JPF Awards, the indie equivalent of the Grammy Awards, in Los Angeles. Last year the orchestra played the Dutch-Thai coproduction of LUCRETIA at the Hanoi Opera, the first twentieth century opera ever performed in Vietnam. The Orpheus Choir is one of Thailand's premier choruses. It's the resident chorus of the Bangkok Opera and also performed the Thailand premieres of many important repertoire choral works like the Mozart C
minor mass and Tippett's A Child of Our Time. This fall the choir will perform Verdi's Four Sacred Pieces and a complete new Requiem by Somtow Sucharitkul.
Don't miss this smorgasbord of well-known operatic delights ... fun for the whole family!
