Great Artists of the World 2008 - Nordic Masters
Nordic Masters combines elements of three greatnorthern European nations – Finalnd, Norway andSweden, Sibeliusand Grieg are acknowledged worldwide as the two great Nordic composers. Theseven Sibelius Symphonies regularly feature in therepertoire of all the world’s orchestras and are increasingly performed as complete cycles. The FirstSymphony remains one of his most enduringlypopular, as is the tone poem Finlandia which seems to evoke the very spirit of Finland. Similarly, Edvard
Grieg’s universally loved Piano Concerto conjures up images of the rugged and beautiful countryside of his native Norway.
Renowned Finnish conductor Okko Kamu directs the
Bangkok Symphony Orchestra in these much-loved masterpieces. A former Director of the Finnish National Opera and Principal Guest Conductor of the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and now Permanent Guest Conductor of the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, Maestro Kamu has conducted most leading international orchestras. Swedish pianist Patrik Jablonski gave his first concert at the tender age of six and has since become one of the world’s leading solo pianists. |
