Hitman Jazz presents one of the best jazz singers from Canada, Irene Atman who will feature in Samui Jazz Vol.6 with Ron Davis Quartet.

A highlight in Thailand’s greeting season’s 2009. Experience a real romance from Irene Atman, a singer who possesses a similar voice to Barbara Streisand but remains with a distinctive style. The singer that had an honor from Canadian Embassy to perform in Tokyo, Japan for a Tribute to Oscar Peterson.

Born in Toronto, Irene is also an accomplished pianist. Her love for classic jazz started early through a box of old records of her father and ask him to play them for her. They are the music of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Doris Day later influencing her future singing career. At 19, while studying at the University of Toronto in History, Irene started singing in Stan Hiltz Orchestra, recorded with Boss Brass, performed with the legendary Tony Bennett. Last year, she toured Australia and Japan where she performed at the Canadian embassy in Tokyo with Makoto Ozone and Holly Cole for a Tribute to Oscar Peterson. Her debut album “Irene Atman” was released in Thailand by jazz-based records label Hitman Jazz and it was well received by fans and critics, who love American Songbook interpreted in cozy and classy way of performance. US-based critics have highly praised her voice like these:

Ron Davis

RON DAVIS is a pianist in the great virtuoso tradition. His music is rooted in the swing and post-bop idioms. Active and popular on the jazz scene, Ron has played across the world. In Canada, Ron’s home base, he is known as both a dazzling musician, and an entertaining performer.

Ron’s 6th recording, 2008’s The Bestseller has been generating lots of buzz. “Splendid new recording... killer playing!" – The Toronto Sun. Best of 2008: JAZZ.FM, Soundproofmagazine.com.

Ron’s other recordings have been internationally acclaimed. His 2007 concert recording Subarashii Live is a nod to Japan, where Ron spent several months as a Visiting Scholar and an Arts Fellow. It stood at Number 1 on Chart Attack’s national jazz radio charts.

Ron also studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music.
