Prince Igor is a vivid Russian opera with marvelous characters and high drama, set in 1185 against the colourful background of Prince Igors campaign against invading Polovtsian tribes. It will be performed by Novosibirsk Opera Theatre, which is nominated for four National Theatre Golden Mask Awards for this production in the Opera category in Russia (2010): Best Production, Best Conductor, Best Actress, Best Actor. This three-act opera is an enormous production involving 290 artistes, including the orchestra, and rarely seen outside Russia. Volynsky, nominee for the National Theatre Golden Mask Award for Best Conductor for Prince Igor, takes the baton.
