Set in mystical royal India, La Bayadère relates the drama of a bayadère (temple dancer) named Nikiya, her love Solor, a noble warrior, and the intrigues of jealousy, eternal love and justice. Petipa choreographed some of the most stunning classical ballet scenes in La Bayadère, notably the Kingdom of the Shades scene and the scarf pas de deux.
Novosibirsk Ballet Theatre is one of the top three ballet companies in Russia and will be accompanied by their orchestra. This production received the National Theater Golden Mask Award (2009) in three Ballet categories: Best Production, Best Conductor (Danilov), Best Male Dancer (Igor Zelensky as Solor, who is performing).
