INTRODUCTION AND OVERVIEW OF 18TH BANGKOK'S INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL
 OF DANCE AND MUSIC

September 8 -October 19, 2016
Main Hall, Thailand Cultural Centre
----------------------------------------------------------

It’s back… and it’s bigger than ever. It’s the festival that began as a commemoration of the 6th cycle birthday of His Majesty and has, over the years, grown exponentially. Come discover the many-splendoured joys of Bangkok’s 18th International Festival of Dance & Music as it unfolds over 40 star-studded days. The curtains rise with spectacular ballet performances – Swan Lake and Giselle. Both by the incomparable Stanislavsky Ballet Theatre of Moscow with elaborate stage elements and exquisite lighting. Literally raising the tempo is the breathtaking China National Acrobatic Troupe from Beijing, featuring artistes who have won no less than 50 gold medals at European and World Championships.

Matching them step for step are more ballet performances by the most acclaimed troupes in the world – the ever-charming Nutcracker by Karlsruhe Ballet, Germany; the riveting, hypnotic Carmina Burana and Tristan de Isolde by Grand Theatre de Geneve of Switzerland; the legendary epic of love, Romeo & Juliet, by Ballet Preljocaj of France, celebrating 400 years of Shakespeare with passion and intrigue in a truly opulent setting.

That’s not all. Enjoy great European opera, CARMINA and Un Ballo in Maschera by Russia’s No. 1 opera theatre, the Helikon Opera. Listen to the talented soloists of Israel’s Camerata Orchestra; the world-renowned President’s Symphony Orchestra from Turkey; or an ensemble of 13 Belgian saxophonists. For jazz lovers, there is the Shuffle Demons Jazz group from Canada. Besides Indian dance by Aditi Mangaldas; flamenco by Spain’s Sara Baras Dance Company; and eight sensational singers for an evening of Hollywood movie nostalgia.

And finally, there’s modern dance by New York’s Paul Taylor Company, creations of the legendary choreographer now in his 85th year.

…………………………………..
