BARRY DOUGLAS
Barry Douglas created a sensation in 1986 when he became the first
non-Russian to win the Gold Medal at the prestigious Tchaikovsky
International Piano Competition in Moscow - the only non-Russian
since Van Cliburn in 1958 to win the competition outright. Since then
he has performed with every major international orchestra and
collaborated with many major conductors including Vladimir
Ashkenazy, Sir Colin Davis, Mariss Jansons, Kurt Masur, Lorin Maazel,
André Previn, Yuri Temirkanov and Mstislav Rostropovich. Since 1999,
he has established a worldwide reputation as a conductor – uniting his
talents as soloist and chamber musician with his passionate and
imaginative approach to music making. In recent years he has directly
complete cycles of the Mozart, Schubert and Beethoven Symphonies, as
well as the Mozart Concertos. His latest recordings feature the complete
Beethoven Concertos with the Camerata Ireland. He has recently signed
an exclusive recording contract with Sony / BMG.
