The Bangkok Opera's
Production of THAIS by Jules Massenet
Bangkok Opera's first Frence-language production is also the first Massenet production in the region. The powerful story of the conflict between religious devotion and sensual pleasure is as relevant today as it was during the time of Anatole France's original novel.
Thaïs, adapted from the novel by Anatole France, is a riot of fin-de-siècle decadence and spirituality.
Massenet’s opera is known for its famous Meditation, yet the entire piece is rarely performed, owing to the great difficulty of the protagonist’s role. Thaïs will be performed by Southeast Asia’s top diva, Nancy Yuen, and the role of the insance monk who falls for her charms while successfully converting her away from sin will be played by Stefan Sanchez, prominent Anglo-American baritone and stage director. The all important movement and dance will be choreographed by Darren Royston of RADA,
who has choreographed such important stars as Lauren Bacall.
