The Pattaya professional women’s tennis tournament is now in its 19th year on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour.

Since 2009 the tournament has been upgraded to be part of the new international series of tournaments, which have a minimum prize money of US$220,000. As well as being upgraded in 2009 the tournament was renamed the PTT Pattaya Open, when PTT Public Co., Ltd joined as the title sponsor alongside Pattaya City.

Joining Date in Pattaya will be Indian superstar World no 9 Russia’s Vera Zvonareva and World no 22 Sabine Lisicki of Germany in the PTT Pattaya Open.

Vera started the 2009 season with a semi-final finish in Australian Open and won the WTA Tour events in Pattaya City and Indian Wells, moving her up to No. 5 in the world ranking. Due to injury, Vera missed much of the latter part of the 2009 season and ended the year ranked 9 in the world. Vera has won a Women’s Doubles Grand Slam Title at the US Open in 2006 and the Mixed Doubles Title at Wimbledon in 2006 and the US Open in 2004.
